Yi-ha, it’s time for a barn dance! It’s all happening next Friday, July 3, at the Pavilion in aid of Hornton School. It runs
from 7.30pm till late, with a live band, a BBQ and a cash bar and tickets are just £5 for adults and £2 for children.

Janet Wilkinson will give a talk and demonstration of Pastel Drawing to Hornton WI in
the pavilion next Thursday, July 2, at 7.30pm. The competition will be to make a home-made greeting card.

Hornton’s Tom Wain and Alex Cox are joining six other Warriner School pupils to
have a crack at the bouncy castle world record!
They’re hoping to bounce for 24 hours - all in aid of the Help for Heroes charity - and they’d love you to sponsor them.
There’s a sponsorship form on the village notice board, so please sign up.
25th June '09 - Cycle and Sizzle
An action-packed day is in store for Hornton on Sunday, July 12, so make sure
you’re in the village.
First up is the Hornton Leisure Cycle Ride, which will depart from the village green at 11.30am and organiser Lynn Corke
says that the focus once again this year will be very much on leisure!
“We’ll be going on an easy circular route and stopping off at a pub for lunch where people can come to join us on foot or
by car,” she explained. “Then it will be back to Hornton in time for the Neighbourhood Watch BBQ!”
And in the evening the sausages will be sizzling at the Neighbourhood Watch annual BBQ and get-together on the village green.
The wine will be flowing too and it will a time to meet newcomers to the village and catch up with all the gossip.
25th June '09 - Beanz Meanz Showz
A much-loved Hornton tradition is being revived - the annual pantomime - and now is the time for all children and adults in
the village to think about taking part!
“We’re going to do Jack and The Beanstalk again, only updated, as Mrs Thatcher was Prime Minister last time we did it!” says
organiser and pavilion committee member Anne Joyner. “It’s written and ready to go, but loads of people are needed to make
it happen.”
There’s a get-together in the pavilion at 7.30pm on Monday week, July 6, for budding actors, producers, musical directors,
make-up artists, stage managers - you name it, the panto will need it.
“Hopefully past and existing Allsort members will come along, as well as folk who live in or around Hornton,” says Anne.
“The only criterion is that they must be able to get here if it snows - the show must go on!
“We’ll aim to do four shows during the February Half Term next year and rehearsals would start seriously in September. The
money raised, minus expenses, will go towards the Pavilion restoration.”

25th June '09 - Catch the Coach
There’s still just time for Hornton’s gardeners to join the 3Hs Gardening Club’s
coach for their annual outing. But be quick, for it’s all happening this Saturday, June 27, when the club goes to
Churchill’s home in Kent, Chartwell.
Tickets are just £20 but, if you’re a member of the National Trust, they are even cheaper because you’ll only have to

25th June '09 - Up for a Party
There’s a day of celebrations in store at Upton House’s Summer Garden Party on Saturday week, July 4. You can be one of the first to see inside the newly restored 1930s squash court and experience the final transformation of Upton House to reflect its 1930s heyday.
From 11 am there will be a punch and judy show, a string quartet, mime and magic and refreshments. Usual ticket prices apply but if you’re a National Trust member, it’s free.
And the celebrations go on to the evening, When you can dance to the Max Collie Band. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music as the sun sets on a summer’s evening. Tickets are just £13.50 in advance or £15 on the gate, children £7. Gates open at 5.30pm and the concert starts two hours later.
25th June '09 - Church Services
Sister Margaret Hale will lead the 11am service at Hornton Methodist Church this Sunday, June 28. There will be no service the parish church as there is a benefice service at 10.30am in St Peter’s, Hanwell.
Don forget that you can pop in for coffee, cake and a chat in the Methodist Church every Friday morning from 10.30am to 12.30pm. There is a book, DVD and video swap - and, of course, lots of good gossip! And Thursday Club meets every week after school until 4.30pm in the Methodist Church School Room. All children are welcome.
18th June '09 - Hitting a High Note
It was standing room only in the pavilion last Friday for
the first of this year’s special pavilion events yhe return by popular demand of
Radio 2 star Reg Meuross.
Around 80 people tucked into a chilli and jacket potato supper before Reg and his
three fellow musicians got everyone up to dance. The event was so popular that
there was an emergency run to Banbury for extra beer supplies and £230 clear
profit was made towards the pavilion refurbishment fund.
The next event is a Spanish Evening on July 25 – featuring the welcome return of
the Hornton Allsorts.
18th June '09 - Just a Minute
Ever fancied making a short film for Hornton Film Festival but
worried that it would take too much time? Now there’s no excuse.
This year’s festival take place on Saturday October 3 with the usual Gala
Screening at the Hornton Pavilion and organiser Pete Whitehead has come up with a
special new film category - the One Minute Wonder.
“This is a film exactly sixty seconds long,” says Pete. “It can be in any theme
or style of your choosing: a documentary, an animation, fact, fiction, comedy,
tragedy, a video or just a series of still images with a sound track or
voice-over. If you have the idea, there is certainly a medium in which it can be
expressed.”
Pete is also keen for longer films – anything up to five minutes – on any subject
under the sun.
“We have had four Film Festivals so far with over 50 movies, almost all of which
were conceived, directed and produced by residents of Hornton,” he said. “The
standard of films has been amazing and the Gala Screenings are a must do Hornton
event.”
The village has its own video camera and editing equipment – plus lots of
technical expertise for anyone who would like to make a film but is not sure

Hornton and District WI will hear a talk about Monet’s house
and garden by May Parker tonight, June 4, in the pavilion at 7.30pm. The

Keep the money rolling in! That’s the plea this week from pavilion
committee secretary Claire Bottoms. She says that the more money the village
raises for the refurbished pavilion, the smarter finished the building will look.
“We’re working hard applying for grants but when they are in place the work will
have to be done in a very tight time frame,” says Claire. “We still need village
support at our fundraising as the more we can collect the better the finish!”

4th June '09 - Cheddar Gorgeous
Katie Walther and Ellie Fox raised a massive £910 from the
cheese and wine evening they held on May 22. And every penny is going to the
Cystic Fibrosis Trust and The Helen and Douglas House Hospice. They want to say
thank you to everyone who came but the thanks really need to go to them for all
their hard work!
