You can pedal for your pint this Sunday, June 27, when Hornton’s ever-popular annual Leisure Cycle Ride takes place, with a
lunchtime stop-out of focus at the Chandler’s Arms in Epwell.
Organiser Lynn Corke says that the emphasis is once again on leisure, with cyclists travelling on an easy circular
route.
“But you don’t have to be a cyclist to take part,” says Lynn. “We’d be delighted if walkers and motorists joined the cyclists
for lunch. And if you’d like to take part but haven’t got a bike, don’t despair. We can find one for you.”
You can just turn up on the morning - the cyclists are leaving at 11.15am from the green - but if you can confirm to Lynn
in advance that you will be coming, that would be appreciated. You can email her at lcorke (at) uwclub dot net or call her
on 07721 988977.

Hospice. She’ll be sorely missed.

3rd June 2010 - Dig It
The land round Hornton’s football pitch will be dug up in the close season - but it’s all in a good cause.
That was the big news parish councillors heard at their annual general meeting.
The excavations will allow the newly refurbished pavilion to have an energy-saving heating system, extracting heat from under
the ground - and it will mean the end of those old and inefficient electric fires and a freezing pavilion in the depths of
winter!
The pavilion committee’s Julie Stanley said in a report that the floor in the pavilion will also have to be dug out and the
building will be closed for about one month while the work is done.
“We are in the process of applying for another grant towards the cost of this,” she said.
Meanwhile, Cllr David Miles was once again elected unanimously as chairman and Cllr John Offord as vice-chairman. It was
decided to allocate committee responsibilities once a new parish councillor has been co-opted.
In the meantime, action on the potholes which have appeared in Hornton’s roads due to the coldest winter in a generation is
going to be chased by the council.
