18th March 2010 - Grand Ocassion
Generous Hornton villagers raised £1000 last Saturday for a charity helping desperately poor Indian villages.
They also had a great time, for the cash was generated through a special curry supper held at Ginny and Norman Brittons’
house and cooked exquisitely by Iqbal Rushforth and Jan and Graham Hall.
The money goes to the Khandel Light charity, which is run by Ginny’s brother-in-law, Peter, and is based in the village of
Khandel, North West India. Peter was on hand to talk about the work of the charity and where the money raised will go.
The evening was such a success that the 50 people who made it a sell-out went home asking when it will happen all over again.
After seeing how many less fortunate people in the world live their lives, they also felt very lucky indeed.
18th March 2010 - May we Count you in?
It might seem a long time ahead, but Hornton’s biggest day of the year - May Day - will only go for a zing if we start
getting ready now!
Organiser Lorraine Joyner has already started planning and she’d like anyone who can help to get in touch with her now on
01295 6707087. Events like May Day thrive on new ideas, so if you’ve got any thoughts for stalls, sideshows or attractions
that we’ve never had before, then now’s the time to share them. Just because you come up with an idea for a new attraction
doesn’t mean you have to run it!
One new idea already in the pipeline is a craft competition in the Methodist Chapel. A schedule should have been put through
your door and now’s the time to start planning your entries as there are loads of categories. For example, you can write a
poem, prepare tea for two or make a model from recycled materials. If you need a new schedule, please ring Jean Burden on
01295 670664.

10th March 2010 - Shining Light
Once again Hornton’s proved why it’s the best and busiest village in Banburyshire - Saturday night’s charity curry night is
an absolute sell out!
It’s authentic Indian curry, cooked right here in Hornton and it’s to raise money for Khandel Light. That’s a small charity
based in the northern village of Khandel and run by the doctor brother-in-law of Hornton’s Ginny Britton.
Ginny is hosting a £20-a-head meal on March 13 to raise cash for the village - including a free glass of wine - and the
curry will be so superb, you won’t’ be disappointed. It’s being cooked by Iqbal Rushforth and Jan Hall.
10th March 2010 - Time to Progress
If you couldn’t make the curry night, you won’t want to miss Hornton’s next Progressive Dinner Party - a special St George’s
Day event on Saturday, April 24.
It’s a great way to make new friends, enjoy great food and wine - and raise money for Hornton good causes, too.
The format’s simple: you opt to be a guest or a host. The guests have three courses at different houses in the village for
just £20 a head and a bottle of wine. The hosts stay at home but have three sets of guests. Their donation is the food and
the rest of the wine.
To take part, all you have to do is to put your name and address on a piece of paper - saying whether you’d prefer to be
guests or hosts - and post it in the village letter box by the noticeboard by 6pm on April 16. Vehetarians are catered for
and singletons positively welcomed, so see you there!
