It’s the real start of a Hornton Christmas! You know the festive season has really arrived when the Ladies Working Party of the Parish Church hold their
annual Christmas Social and Sale and it’s just a week away! It all kicks off in the church at 6pm on Satuday week, December 4.
There will be special Christmas stalls, a tombola, a raffle and plenty of mulled wine to wash down the home-made mince pies, so don’t miss it!

Hornton Methodist Chapel was packed on Saturday for a Christmas Soup Lunch. A tempting choice of bean vegetable, onion, roasted vegetable and spicy Tsunami soups were
waiting for hungry customers and £600 was raised for much-needed chapel funds.

18th November 2010 - Stamp of Approval
Christmas cards will soon be dropping through your door and, when they do, please don’t throw the stamps away! Hornton’s Maggie Higgins collects them for the Royal
National Institute for the Blind.
British and foreign stamps can be sold to raise funds to support their vital work in the UK, so please tear off your used stamps – leaving one cm. of envelope around it.
These used stamps can then be dropped off at Holloway House, Bell Street, Hornton, and Maggie will forward them on to the RNIB.

11th November 2010 - Eleventh Hour
Today is the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and if you haven’t bought your Poppy yet, it’s not
too late. Hornton’s Maggie Higgins and Audrey Turner are organising the Poppy Appeal in the village and, if you
weren’t in when they called, you can still buy your Poppy directly from Maggie at Holloway House or Audrey at
Bellevue.

Hornton Methodist Church are holiding a Christmas Soup Lunch and crusty bread this Saturday.
November 13. There will be a bring’n’buy stall and traditional Hornton raffle, so roll up from 12 noon to 2pm. All
the proceeds will go to much-needed chapel funds.

11th November 2010 - Sit Up
The brilliant new interior of Hornton’s pavilion is almost complete and we can all sit back and enjoy it
– as long as we buy the new chairs necessary to enjoy it!
The village is buying 100 new chairs for the pavilion and are appealing to people to sponsor a chair for
£30 a time. So far two thirds of the chairs have been sponsored but that still leaves another 30. If you can buy a
whole chair - or even more than one - that would be great but any donations are welcome. Please contact Sarah

The Dun Cow slipped up in their latest home match when they went down by the narrowest of margins.
They lost 3-4 to Southam Sports and Social Club, leaving them one place behind their opponents in the Harbury and
District Crib League. The Hornton cribbers lie fourth with six points.

This Tuesday’s meeting of the 3Hs Gardening Club will be a special Christmas event, when Freefields Florists from Banbury will give a demonstration on making festive
decorations. As usual, it will take place at 7.30pm in the pavilion.
4th November 2010 - Gourmet Ghouls
The latest progressive dinner party was a terrifying triumph! As it should have been, because it took place on Halloween weekend, with guests asked to dress “ghoulish”
and the hosts asked to provide “weird and wonderful” food.
Everyone complimented Anne Joyner for organising yet another fantastic evening and they hope she’ll be persuaded to put on another in the spring. Village funds were
almost £500 richer from the event.
