The bats in the belfry saga rumbles on, it becoming clear that a mix of pipistrels and long-eared bats makes opening up the roof
space as originally planned an expensive option.
There are also structural considerations as the roof metalwork maintains the rigidity of the shell.
Next step is to convene a meeting in the spring when key Pavilion committee members are back in the UK to agree a route forward.
Again the intent is to consult with as many users of the hall as possible.
Pavilion set to grow - your help needed
There are plans to extend the Pavilion in order to provide better kitchen and storage facilities. Permission for this
work was granted in 1998 - and it is now proposed to press ahead with fundraising and seeking grants in order to
turn the plans into reality.
This will involve adding a new section to the kitchen end of the Pavilion. The cost is likely to be almost £30,000.
It will provide a much more flexible space, including a storage area, and allow food preparation in a suitably equipped
and spacious kitchen.
As ever, this will only happen if we make it so! Obviously, donations are always welcome, but so are ideas for
fundraising. We may also try to do some of the work ourselves (eg. decorating, digging out the bank and footings)
in order to minimise the expense.
If you can help in any way, please contact either the Pavilion Committee Chairman (Ian Harris),
Treasurer (Lynne Fickling) or Secretary (Steve
Woodcock). Any help, ideas or donations will be much appreciated.
