Hornton's Famous Progressive Dinner - Returns on Saturday March 14 2009!
The next Progressive Dinner is on Saturday 14th March next Spring and as before all of the proceeds will go towards the Pavilion
Fund.
It's a while since the last Progressive Dinner so the description of how it works is repeated below for anyone who hasn't joined in
previously. It's a comfortable and easy way to meet your neighbours if you've recently moved to Hornton and an enjoyable way of
contributing towards the renovation of our dear old Pavilion, which is such a vital part of the special community spirit that we're
all lucky enough to enjoy here in Hornton. Single people are most welcome to join in, there are several singledons who progress
each time. Everyone who has come in the past has come back for more - the proof of the pudding! If you've joined in before but
have never hosted then perhaps you'll consider giving hosting a try. One of the nicest things about the evening is how jolly
everyone always seems to be, and the 'hosting nerves' wear off very quickly. The whole idea of the thing is variety - you may find
yourself eating in the kitchen of one home, a tray on your lap in another, around the dinner table in another and the food may be
an exotic course followed by a homely basic.
It's a great opportunity to meet your neighbours or get to know people a little better - not to mention enjoying a good
old-fashioned village gossip!
THE EVENING: Saturday 14th March 2009 from 7.00 until the end.
Guests enjoy a three course dinner with drinks for £25 per head at three different venues within walking distance of each other.
IF YOU'RE A GUEST........
The week before the Dinner Party you'll receive an invitation to the home of your first hosts for 7.00p.m. You'll give your first
hosts of the evening a bottle of wine, and from then on all your drinks will be provided by the hosts. When you arrive you will
meet up with another pair of Progressers and your hosts will serve the first course of the dinner. At 8.15p.m. you'll be given
an envelope containing the address of your hosts for the main course, and you should get there by 8.30p.m. There you'll meet up
with another set of Progressers and you'll be served your main course. At 9.45 you''ll be given a final envelope telling you where
to go for your last course and you'll arrive there by 10.p.m. for dessert, coffee, cheese and biscuits. Your final hosts will
present you with a bill of £25 per head which is the guests' donation to The Pavilion Fund.
Bear in mind that your various hosts may have schemes to make a little more money by holding a raffle, or some games.
IF YOU ARE HOSTS......
The Hosts prepare and serve dinner with drinks in their own home for six people including themselves, the hosts' donation to the
Pavilion Fund. The week before the dinner party the hosts will receive confirmation and will be told if any of their guests have
special dietry requirements. Each host will have four different guests for each course of the meal, and give the final four a bill
for £25 a head. Hosts may think of extra ways in which to raise money during the course of the evening - for instance by raffle
or games.
AND IF YOU'RE JOINING IN.....
Fill in the form and post it in the Village Post Box on the wall next to the Notice Board by 6.00 p.m. Friday 6th March 2009 - it's
not the GPO postbox by the way, but the little wooden one which is attached to the wall next to the notice board.
Hope to see you there!
